When children, mobile phones and schools come together problems often arise, and they are not about to go away any time soon. There is the issue of handsets being stolen from students’ bags. Also, kids who don’t have a mobile phone often complain about a lack of status, and those who have them are sometimes victim to cyber-bullying.
However, there is another way of looking at it. There is a huge untapped potential when it comes to using mobile phones in learning, especially for schools whose funds still go mainly to the maintenance of desktop labs. And the potential is considerable considering the high percentage of students having mobile phones, even if not all of them possess features such as camera or Bluetooth.
Despite this, certain concerns regarding call cost, bullying and unsuitable content first have to be taken care of before such ideas could become reality.
