Girls and Games

It’s no secret that girls (young and middle aged) are a thriving market for video games. 65% of SIM’s players were girls – that’s around 40 million units. Nintendo’s hit series Nintendogs, selling 15 million units, was according to company sources supported by a market that was 25% female.

Ubisoft is now planning to launch its own games series aimed directly at this market. The company that brought you (they boys) “Assassin’s Creed” will offer, imaginatively, titles such as “Babyz”, “Animal Doctor” and “Fashion Designer” designed for 6-14 year olds.

According to Ypulse,  “…all games will incorporate online components that will allow Sims-like exchanges. For example, Babyz will allow gamers to snap pictures of their babies and share them online with their friends.”
