Mobile Youth Street Trends in Shanghai (Presentation)

by Graham Brown on August 11, 2008

Given it’s the first week of the Olympics, we should offer something topical here on mobileYouth so here’s a great presentation on youth trends and mobile in Shanghai China originally by Miriam Rayman for the V&A Global Cities Series in May. The youth cultural survey is from the qualitative and socio-psychological perspective of cultural change.

Interesting to note on Slide 22 how “Tibetan Buddhism & Ayurveda” is noted as a youth trend in China. One would consider this as a “subculture” in China being very much against the grain of the official line. Does that mean we’ll see Chinese punks of the future with the iconic Dalai Lama on the back of their studded leather jackets?
