Displacement of one existing Social Tool for a another that provides more Social Currency. The motivation behind using both Social Tools is the same (they both fulfil the same basic Social Drivers of Belonging and Significance) but their features and usages may be entirely different. Examples of displacement include mobile phones replacing cigarettes in US teens during the late 90s.
