Upstart Radio by Graham Brown
Question: How do you make a non-profit or a public sector agency cool? Answer: You don’t – you focus on making it relevant.
And if you want proof of concept that partnership marketing really works, check out how Bret Bernhoft from Insyght Consulting in Oregon USA helped the Red Cross engage youth. Focus on connecting with youth through that narrative – what exactly is it about this non-profit that makes it relevant to youth? This, as Bret reveals, is the single-most important aspect of a youth marketer’s engagement with a non-profit.
Too many agencies focus their energies on the choice of media (Facebook. Twitter, Mobile etc) rather than building that dialogue with youth. As Bret says, these choices really are secondary once you have established that moment of aperture. It’s a great youth marketing story and particularly relevant to those organizations who need to provide some leadership for an internal marketing dialogue lost on the question of “how can we be cooler?“.
