It’s been a while since I’ve had time to pen a proper post. So here’s a short update just to touch base with the mobileyouthosphere.

Sunday 12 Apr

I departed London April 12th after experience the delights of Yotel before setting off on our mobileYouth world tour.

Monday 13 Apr

Landed in a cold, rainy Chicago to a warm reception by the Threadless team – special thanks to CEO Tom Ryan. After breakfast with Tom, spent the morning with Threadless (“America’s most innovative small company”). Shot video with Tom & founder Jake before heading over to Leo Burnett to deliver presentation on mobileYouth to internal audience. Few hours of daylight left – head up to Sears Tower to hit Skydeck observation platform but rain aborts the mission with “zero visibility”. Still no Jones Soda in sight.

Tuesday 14 Apr

Early morning flight – headed back to New York. Presentations at MTV headquarters followed by Iris (agency) both situated up on Broadway. So, spent afternoon around Times Square looking for the elusive Jones Soda (no success) despite help from the twitterverse and Google Maps. Evening flight to Toronto.

Wednesday 15 Apr

Few hours sleep, semi-rested before delivering presentation to Telus Mobility up in Scarboro, Toronto. Sample delights of Toronto’s culinary offering @ Jamie Kennedy’s wine bar in downtown Toronto. Can learn to love this city.

Thursday 16 Apr
Afternoon presentation with Rogers Wireless. Team very friendly – particular thanks to Raphael and Renee for facilitation and sushi lunch.

Friday 17 Apr

Day to catch up with myself. Explore city. Head up to CN Tower (billed as World’s 2nd tallest). Splendid weather and view make day. Catch myself a cheesy tourist photo for $25.

Saturday 18 Apr

Say goodbye to Canada and Toronto (you’ll be missed) and catch connecting flight to Denver Colorado whereupon I attempt an assault on Copper Mountain for the Red Bull 1976 Games. Mike Poznansky @ RB USA set me up with an invite to these collegiate games – how could I resist? Landing in Colorado, pilot informs us there will be 3 feet of snow today! The anxiety just adds to the excitement. Gear in tow I pay taxi driver $300 to drive me into the mountains through whiteouts and road closures to hit Copper base camp. Games are a blast – DJ Mixmaster Mike from Beastie Boys manages to make an appearance on the decks. Aaron F, Greg A and OC from the Red Bull team are particularly accommodating – looking forward to hooking up with these guys in future. Now I got to get off the mountain and out to LAX to fly to Tokyo. Got a stack of photos and videos to press (watch this space).

Sunday 19 Apr
Ridiculously early start. 5am taxi pickup – the man gets another $300. Stars are vibrant and clear up on the mountain but gear hire shop is closed and I’m left hauling clothes and huge boots with me to airport and eventually to LA! Catch flight to LAX spend 2 hours searching downtown for a FedEx Kinko’s that hasn’t shut down to mail my gear back to Copper Mountain. $200 later I’m done and in LAX waiting for my fight.

Monday 20 Apr
Landed in Tokyo pm.

Tuesday-Friday

Recharge, Refresh – chance to catch up with myself and eat properly (always difficult when you’re on the move). Visits to Tokyo Odaiba (beach), Shibuya (downtown) Trendspotting, Meiji Jingu, Disney Mobile and Softbank. Final client visit (confidential).

Saturday 25th Apr onwards -
So here I am in Tokyo almost finished, getting ready to head on to Singapore then Johannesburg South Africa for 2 speaking gigs before finally returning back to London.

Apart from these light updates, I won’t be back to full blogging until my return to London week 2 May. In the meantime you can follow my tweets on twitter and check out the World Tour photo galleries here (1) and here (2).
