Youth advertising under the official microscope

Children see some 10,000 TV adverts a year and recognise 400 brands by age 10, UK Children’s Secretary Ed Balls says and he’s concerned whether or not that’s a good thing.

The BBC reports that the UK government is launching an inquiry into the possible harmful effects of advertising on children (tobacco and alcohol may be the main culprits but the study is more wide ranging and will touch everything from food to toys).
