Many animes are based off of the misadventures of students during school, but Classroom of the Elite takes this popular anime concept and really runs far with it. Based off of both a light novel and a serialized manga, Classroom of the Elite was adapted as an anime and had a 12 episode long first season. A few years later, fans are wondering what there is to know about Classroom of the Elite season 2. For those who are interested in a recap of the past and speculation of the future check out our Classroom of the Elite overview below.

Classroom of the Elite History

Like many successful anime series, Classroom of the Elite originally started out in text media. Classroom of the Elite was originally a light novel written by Shogo Kinugasa and illustrated by Shunsaku Tomose in 2015. It was soon adapted into a manga by Yuyu Ichino the following year. To this day, both the light novel series and the manga series are still ongoing in publication.

It wasn’t until summer of 2017 that this unique and thrilling story finally made its way into its third incarnation as an anime series. While it only had a dozen episodes, it caught on quickly and has many fans that are eagerly awaiting Classroom of the Elite season 2.

Classroom of the Elite Synopsis

As mentioned earlier, Classroom of the Elite has a unique premise that really separates it from other high school based anime. The premise is that the government of Japan created a unique high school called the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School. This school’s main goal is to mature and nurture its students into unbelievably outstanding citizens of Japan.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School has four leagues of classes: A Class, B Class, C Class and D Class. A Class only has the best students with the highest chances of success, whereas D Class is considered the least exceptional.

The story follows the protagonist Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, who is enrolled into Class D. Interestingly, Kiyotaka is actually an extremely bright student deep down, but deliberately performs at average or below average levels so he can be placed into Class D.

Kiyotaka and many other students of the Advanced Nurturing School, including Suzune Horikita, Airi Sakura and more, are gradually uncovering the secrets and the true purpose of this unique school in this exciting psychological thriller.

Classroom of the Elite Season 1 Recap

The first season of Classroom of the Elite anime roughly covers the first three books of the manga. The first couple of episodes have a strong focus on Class D as they fail to take their academic responsibilities seriously and struggle with spending their school subsidized allowances wisely and passing their exams.

However, Kiyotaka uses his intellect for devious ends on several occasions and manages to get Class D to succeed not based off of merit but trickery and cunning. His actions throughout season 1 drive the plot as they reveal more about his questionable psyche as well as the true nature of the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School.

What We Know About Classroom of the Elite Season 2

Season 1 of Classroom of the Elite finished airing in September of 2017, so it has been a little over two years since we’ve gotten a new episode. So the question remains – are we going to finally see Classroom of the Elite Season 2?

While the first season concentrated on only a fraction of the manga volumes with a lot more source material to be adapted for television, the anime production team Lerche hasn’t said anything official about Classroom of the Elite season 2 in all this time.

For now, there are different theories or speculations about what the likely outcome of Classroom of the Elite season 2 will be. One is that because there are so many manga volumes left and because the studio Lerche is known to produce multiple seasons for a show, that therefore Classroom of the Elite season 2 is all but guaranteed.

However, there are some counter arguments to this idea. While Classroom of the Elite season 1 did very well on streaming services, the Blu-ray copies had rather lackluster sales. This could mean that the Lerche studio feels there isn’t enough of a reason to develop Classroom of the Elite season 2 because it simply is not profitable enough.

While some fans are hopeful that Classroom of the Elite season 2 will appear in either 2020 or 2021, we unfortunately have little evidence to support this theory. On the plus side, there is also little evidence to suggest that the show is over, so not all hope is lost for this anime.

What You Can Do While Waiting For Classroom of the Elite Season 2

When your favorite anime series is on hiatus it may seem like a torturous wait but that actually isn’t the case. You can still do many things as you wait for any news on a new season.

For one thing, you can check out either the light novel or the manga series which have more in-depth characterizations of the students, as well as going deeper into the later story arcs including some romance plots.

Another thing you can do is to buy the Blu-ray set, either for yourself or as a gift for a friend who hasn’t seen Classroom of the Elite yet. Not only will you or a friend have a great gift that will allow you to see the show in its highest quality, but you will be sending a message to the executives behind the series. More money poured into Classroom of the Elite means higher odds that season 2 will be funded. It’s the best way you can show your support for this series!

Classroom of the Elite is a complex story with many twists and turns and very 3-dimensional characters that all have very unique motivations, so it makes sense why people are excited about a new season. On the other hand, this could very well be the reason why a second season is taking so long to make, if it is being made at all. Let’s all hope that if Classroom of the Elite season 2 does drop that it will continue the intensity and excitement that made the original season so good.
