Samsung has been one of the biggest names in TV manufacturing for a very long time. Part of their success stems from the fact that they are great at marketing TV models to people who want the absolute best as well as people looking for a great entry level into modern day TVs.
Today we’re going to be looking at one of their newer 2019 models, the massive 65 inch QN65Q60RAFXZA, meant to be a 4K Smart TV that is relatively affordable considering its size and its features. Is this the TV to get for anyone looking to finally enter into the world of UHD and HDR? Let’s find out.
When we examined the build quality of the QN65Q60RAFXZA it became rather apparent why this TV is relatively cheap for its size and features. The back of the casing is almost completely made out of plastic and it feels just a little bit too cheap for our liking.
Other than that this Samsung model is built pretty well, like most Samsung TVs. The QN65Q60RAFXZA is pretty thin for its large size, and this goes not only for the borders of the screen but for the entire casing as well. This is a great option for wall-mounting, but it will work very well for regular table mounting as the stands are quite large and keep the TV very firmly planted on any flat surface that can fit its size.
Smart TV Functionality
Samsung TVs typically use the Tizen smart OS which isn’t exactly a household name OS but has always performed very well in terms of smoothness and versatility.
The QN65Q60RAFXZA actually boasts a cleaner and faster UI compared to Samsung models prior to 2019. Scrolling through thumbnails is actually very fast and everything is neatly arranged in a lower-third bar that doesn’t obscure most of the screen, which we found to be a very clever decision on Samsung’s part.
As expected from Samsung, the QN65Q60RAFXZA has a very impressive selection of application compatibility. Not only does it come with many great and popular apps pre-installed but it also has a wider app library than most Smart TVs, regardless of price range. In short, this is a great Smart TV that should happily satisfy anyone.
While there were some areas of the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA that were a little on the disappointing side, for the most part this TV has quite impressive picture quality, especially when it comes to its 4K and HDR input.
Let’s discuss the subpar aspects first. For one thing the QN65Q60RAFXZA has surprisingly bad viewing angles that makes colors seem too dark and washed out if not viewed from a straight angle. The QN65Q60RAFXZA is also a little poor at displaying some brighter colors, particularly blues. This TV also seems to look like it is stuttering when displaying lower frame rates. Slower panning shots may look a little disjointed.
Other than these issues, the QN65Q60RAFXZA is definitely a worthy 4K and HDR set. The HDR is pretty good, especially for darker scenes. All resolutions look nice but 4K especially looks excellent. Other than some minor dimming for movies and TV shows, the 4K input is practically perfect.
This is also an excellent television for anyone who wants to have either high refresh rates or very smooth motion during fast paced scenes. The QN65Q60RAFXZA handles fast motion extremely well whether we’re talking 60hz or even 120hz. This makes it a particularly good TV not just for action movies or sports, but for gaming especially.
Color accuracy for the most part is very good as well. Some brighter elements aren’t as clear or distinct as they should be but for the most part the color spectrum is represented quite nicely as long as you are sitting at the right angle. All in all, the picture quality of the QN65Q60RAFXZA is undeniably quite good.
At the end of the day, we have to recommend the Samsung QN65Q60RAFXZA which accomplishes most of what a high end Smart TV is supposed to do: deliver a great UI with great app compatibility, be perfectly suitable for wall-mounting and have an overall picture quality that really shines at the highest resolution and the highest refresh rate.
It may not be the best TV Samsung ever put out but the QN65Q60RAFXZA is undeniably a great entry model. We recommend it for anyone finally looking to get something that has all of the bells and whistles that make modern day TV sets so special.
